Meet Nib, the pet that hatches in your notch
Every MacBook since 2021 has a black notch at the top of the screen. Most of the time it just sits there, taking up space in the menu bar.
Hatchnotch puts something in it. Two things, really.
Nib
Nib is a small creature that lives just left of the notch. It has moods: it gets curious when you hover, happy when a build passes, angry when tests fail, and sleepy if you leave your Mac alone for a while. When nothing is going on it climbs out and wanders along under the menu bar, then runs back the moment something happens.
You can pick a cat, bunny, bear, frog, ghost or robot. Each one moves its own way. The frog catches flies with its tongue, and the ghost fades out to say “boo”.

Widgets for people who live in the terminal
Hover over the notch and it opens into a small panel. I built it for my own workflow first, so it leans towards developers:
- Claude Code: your 5-hour and weekly limits, live sessions, and permission prompts you can allow or deny right from the notch.
- Agents & CI: GitHub Actions runs for your repos, with an alert when they finish.
- The
notchCLI: send an alert from any script, build or cron job.notch "Deploy done"is all it takes.
There’s also the everyday stuff: Now Playing, a file shelf with AirDrop, clipboard history, a focus timer, to-dos and calendar.
